Add a CommentThis book has been on my to-read list for a long time, and I recently picked up a copy. Without even finishing it, I'm going to say that this is a must-read for anyone who's loving the dystopian trend that seems to be running amok with popular fiction right now - the catch is Nick Harkaway seemed to catch on before anyone else in the adult fiction scene seemed to - and the result is a beautiful novel with truly engulfs you in its world. Still haven't learned the name of our main character right now, but somehow I don't miss it. Say what you want about Mr. Harkaway, but he is a talented author with a nose for trends - definitely someone to watch!
Great book. Definately a must read for anyone interested in post-apocolyptic and dystopian world themes. Well written, jumping back and forth in time to introduce new information about the protagonist, who remains nameless thoughout, until the final twist at the end.
I truly enjoyed this book. It was beautiful. You know how people talk about "being transported" in conjunction with a novel? That's what this was for me.
I love Nick Hardaway's characters, his writing, his sense of compassion and humor, the amazing, dark and redemptive post-apocalypse world he creates here. Easy to become attached, second-guess, worry, hope, laugh, and even weep as the heroes and heroines of the Gone-Away World struggle to fulfill their impossible (or is it?) mission.
I really wanted to like this book, but it is totally unreadable. Horrible. It's the only Nancy Pearl recommendation I've ever tried, and may well be the last.
