A 2 year old boy escapes his house right before his family is murdered, and ends up in the graveyard. His mother's ghost begs the ghosts which inhabit the graveyard to care for her living son, and hide him from the murderer. So Nobody Owens is raised by the graveyard folk until the day the murderer finds him, and then he has to avenge the death of his family.

good book to read
At the best of times his face was unreadable. Now his face was a book written in a language long forgotten, in an alphabet unimagined. Silas wrapped the shadows around him like a blanket, and stared after the way the boy had gone, and did not move to follow.

An extraordinary coming-of-age story! The graveyard is a rich, enclosed world, with a huge amount of variety. Gaiman is so thorough that the ghosts from different time periods speak differently, and when certain ones are introduced, the epithets on their headstones are mentioned. As for the other creatures, Gaiman has a way of introducing their species through descriptions, rather than plainly stating what they are, that is impressive. Bod himself is a fascinating character to follow as he grows up; curious, good-natured, and brave, you can't help but want to know what happens to him.
I really liked how in this book each chapter seemed to be a story. Liza was probably my favourite character. It was pretty cool how Mrs. Owens' song played a huge part in the story. But the last 2 chapters were very unsatisfactory.
Not my favorite book by Neil Gaiman, but a pleasure to read.
An inventive story about a boy raised by ghosts and supernatural guardians, kept safe inside a graveyard. It appears to be a creepy story about an unusual childhood, but it contains universal themes and lessons about growing up that applies to all of us.
Review title: Perfect Protection. Fascinating, intriguing, suspense-filled, and mysterious are just a few words to describe this tale. Follow the protagonist into a graveyard and "see" what is unearthed there. Meet with the people that the protagonist runs into and find out if they are living or dead or something in between. With each page you turn you will find out the truth of the grave-"yard" as well as the story behind how the protagonist was "driven" to the "protectors." You will never guess the ending, and you will be "shaken" by the ending events. Here is a quote from the tale: "Face your life Its pain, its pleasure, Leave no path untaken"

This book is not bad but i will not recoremnde.
Neil Gaiman writes. Everyone wins, both children and adults. The Graveyard Book imparts important childhood morality tales in a way that is not preachy or condescending (as so many children's authors can be). But the book is also genuinely enjoyable for adults as well. Some "easter eggs" slipped in there--jokes just a shade too adult for kids to even notice, but mostly just a nice escapist fantasy of a different world of children, hopes, dreams, nightmares, ghosts, good, and evil. Spoiler alert: Good wins! Hooray.
Not bad, but not high on my 'recommend to friends' list.
