Add a CommentI suppose this is as good a documentary as the reviews suggest, but my distaste for the subject matter coloured my enjoyment of the film. Probably more for people who are Tyson fans, or at least more sympathetic to him than I find myself able to be.
Fantastic movie about one of the greatest icons in fighting history. A violent ferocious fighter in the ring is juxtaposed with an intelligent reflective kind man. This is about a man in recovery. I hope he writes an autobiography. I'll pick it up right away.
Even if you hate Mike Tyson and have no interest in boxing, this is a great film. Any opinion you had of Mike Tyson will change after you see this film.
Good – Tyson (2008) 90 min. Whatever impression you had about Mike Tyson, this documentary will most likely support your view of him. What I learned most about this film is how angry Tyson lived his life up to now and how he kept the devil close by as blessings upon blessings were placed at his feet – namely, Cus D’Amato, his manager and mentor. Not only did he claim those blessings but he shared it with the devil. As a result, Mike Tyson kept having to re-establish himself in his personal and professional boxing life. The film does feature highlights of his famous fights and provides a well-rounded biography of Mike Tyson.
