Add a CommentThis book has a great premise in the age of technology in which we live. It would be a delightful book except for the derogatory use of the word "jackass" at the end. This book is not appropriate to read to young children in my opinion. Parents please be advised that the book uses the word "jackass" twice. In the title page it is used in correct form where the donkey is referred to as a jackass which I had no problem explaining to my 6 year old that sometimes a donkey is called a jackass. If he said that at school when they were talking about donkeys then I don't think he would get sent to the office. On the other hand, at the end of the book the mouse says "IT'S A BOOK, JACKASS." Clearly as the author states on his own personal blog that the jackass is annoying to the monkey and in my opinion the word is used in derogatory fashion to call him a name at the end. My 6 year old even stated, "that's a bad word, Mom" and proceeded to ask why it was in the book. I was miffed and told him I wasn't sure and that they should have used a different word. I then had to tell him that is a word that he should not repeat and that he would get in trouble at school if he did. It ruined the book.
A quirky and fun read for parents and kids alike, this book teasingly refers to a digital generation's understanding of books as a novelty.
One of my all-time favourites
LOVE THIS BOOK! So hilarious, Fun and greatly written recommend this book for 11 and older; has a bad word, but still delicious! :D
Witty, subversive and a rallying cry for bibliophiles (and their kids)!
This book uses another word for donkey, which might not be appropriate for all children. But if your an open and silly parent, this book is a delightful comparison between technology and tangiable literature.
This is a wonderfully entertaining book. My nephew and I almost fell off our chair when we read this together!
This book is SOO cute!!
This is a little gem! If you know a child who is a techno- baby, get this book for them. Oh heck! Get it for yourself, it's short, smart and laugh out loud-able.
Hilarious book - great premise, wonderful illustrations about the joys of technology. Unfortunately can't see it working for storytimes.
