Nia Vardalos shines in this ensemble rom-com that is packed to the brim with heart and romance without being too cheesy or over-the-top. Cultures clash when the Greek-Orthodox Toula falls head over heels in love with Anglo-Saxon Ian. Ian is quick to discover that he can't have Toula in his life without her eccentric family and hilarity ensues on their way down the aisle.
I loved this, my kind of humor! It was a feel-good movie and I laughed out aloud at times.
I would say one of my most favorite movies ever. I enjoyed the sequel to it as well.
Interesting history of how this became a movie, just looked it up online.
Hope they make a third one, there has been talk about it.
I really liked this movie because it was all about a big, crazy family, so it was filled with comedy and an abundance of love. I could relate to the main character because I too am in the middle of a giant, boisterous family and because she wanted bigger things for herself. Not only was the movie funny, but it shone a light on Greek culture and how important family life really is. I wouldn’t change anything about the movie, because even it’s imperfections work with the overall theme. This movie is a feel good movie all the way through and I’m excited to watch the sequel. 4/5 Stars

This movie hasn't aged as well as I expected it would, but it's still very good. It's a nice, light comedy. For me, all of the "But he's not Greek!" started to wear a little thin this time around. I'm glad I rewatched it prior to seeing My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, its creatively titled sequel. While I don't think 2's story is one that needed to be told, Nia Vardalos did a wonderful job of writing the characters' lives 14 years later. With the sequel, I appreciated the closeness of the family and how they had become much more tolerant, and I was impressed that everyone, even very minor characters, had returned for it. I recommend having some Greek food on hand if you are planning to watch either or both of these movies. You will be hungry for it. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is rated PG for sensuality and language.
Truly a fun movie with great actors. Love this one and recommend it highly.
Amazing and absolutely HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The perfect family movie if your in need for some laughs! =)
Delightful romantic comedy about a dilemma that has faced many immigrants--interethnic marriage. Somewhat over the top in some spots, but very entertaining.
A hilarious film!
