Long Tall Dexter. Takes a stroll through New York to Paris and back. Loosely based on pianist Bud Powell’s experience seen through a saxophonist’s perspective. A period movie with Clint Eastwood’s production team showing an atmospheric wet night street sheen dissolving into smoky nightclubs. Was his prelude before doing ‘Bird,’ again as atmospheric. A great scene near the end has Martin Scorsese, as a promoter, buoying up Dexter’s character up while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge in a taxi, smarmy yet so relevant. A movie for the ages. Dexter was up for a deserved Oscar, he went in a fine, fine suit. Makes one yearn to be back in those trio bar clubs, slinking drinking in chairs, waiting for the night to begin and extracting whatever joy one can. This movie exudes that.

I liked this movie a lot. Very well done. Sad at the end, but uplifting throughout.
