A dystopian story that is really interesting but I found the acting and special effects kind of a drag on a good story

A strange surrealistic atmosphere defines a restrictive society, and this movie as well. Oskar Werner played his low-keyed fearfully questing character perfectly. A particular highlight was his reciting of the "My Pretty Dora" passage from…

A good adaptation of a classic book. Some things are better in the movie: Clarisse survives in the film which gives us more hope. In the book, at the end the atomic bombs are falling, meaning that it’s basically the end of civilization. …

Some of the creative choices made are not only dated but peculiar; nevertheless I have to watch it now and then. The literate Julie Christie is even more delightful than the zombie Julie Christie is awful. Ending makes me weep with…

Thanks, vonH, for the copy of the 6 July 2000 IMDB review by 'dusted1.' But what we'd like to know is, what did YOU think about the movie? F'r instance, how did all those people learn to read in the first place?

Yes, the movie is slow. Yes, the sets and the costumes are very 60ish and very dated. But it has something to say. Its depiction of a narcissistic, alienated, superficial, mass media lobotomized culture might ring true for more than a…

A boring and pointless movie. I am not inclined to read the book either.

Good acting by Julie Christie but overall it was dry! The monorail was interesting and the firemen marched like Nazis! I’m going to watch the remake and compare them!

way better then the remake

It was interesting to see the original version. Seems so out of date now. The bonus features were good with Ray Bradbury and especially the making of the movie. I saw the remake with Michael Shannon and it is very good.

First off - What I'd like to know is this - Why-oh-why are so many SyFy stories that forecast man's future always so annoyingly bleak and the outlook so lousy? Eh? Why? Like - Are we really that doomed even before we get there? When it…

Although I found the book thought-provoking, the movie just didn't do it for me. I found my imagination to be more entertaining than the movie director's/producer's. (For a full review of this story, see my book review.…

Even though, I've never read the book, I greatly enjoyed the movie, even though it's much darker than I would normally watch. I do feel that the story in Fahrenheit 451, is a timely warning that should never be forgotten.

I saw this film many years ago and initially was disappointed that it didn't follow the novel closer. Upon seeing it again I can see the director's point of view and enjoyed it more. It is unfortunate that in science fiction films that…

Waste of time and life! Almost 2 hour I can't get back

First viewed about 50 years ago in a movie theater, it was fun to re-view to see how it has held up over 5 decades. It has held up much better than Old_Toto! It would be interesting to see an update where social media (including books)…

The special effects were virtually nonexistent; clips of a French prototype monorail, jet-pack propelled 'firemen', a cheezy utilitarian firetruck... But this was 1966, and of no surprise. What was enjoyable to me was Bradbury's dystopian…

A classic movie of a very thought provoking book. Many times throughout history societies have tried to suppress freedom of thought, and since the dawn of printing the easiest way to do this is to burn books (or at the very least ban them).
Jun 18, 2013
The movie starts off with a firetruck sequence that looks fake enough to be the trolley from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood with Playmobil men riding through a miniature forest. But apparently, this was the look Truffaut was going for: a world…

Sci-Fi classic. Easy to tell that this is a 1960s film....
Mar 12, 2013
This movie was made in 1966 so the 'special effects' one would expect from a sci-fi film are next to none. However the concepts of fear invoked compliance, emotional detachment from a blind reliance on technology, and social brainwashing…

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.

Ignore the (by today's standards) poor production values. Still a thought-provoking film. I've not read the book, so don't have an appreciation of what's "missing" in the film.

The book was so much better but isn't it always?
Jul 13, 2012
The book is MUCH BETTER than the movie. Actually I couldn't help but think that I had fallen into the trap of mindless visualization much as the book talks about.
