A densely written tome that will be of interest primarily to students of urban history or city planning. The primary topics are Seattle politics during the period of 1900-1920 or so. The book is written in an academic style and lacks much attempt to identify major themes. Still, anyone who is interest in municipal control over utilities, immigration, vice and the Seattle waterfront will surely discover interesting details in this book. Seattle has a contentious past and the back and forth machinations of young city are dutifully chronicled here.
