I had been humming “Don’t Dream” for several days and decided I really need to borrow the CD. I thought it was a Split Enz song, but it is a Crowded House song (the Split Enz sort of evolved into Crowded House with Neil Finn leading the band.) I had to dig through my cassette tapes to find my Split Enz album. Created by the Finn brothers (Neil and Tim), both excellent songwriters and had several hits that charted in the U.S. and elsewhere including “Don’t Dream.” I was in Australia in 1982 and I think that’s when I first heard the Finn Brothers. Split Enz were sort post-punk, new wave type music. They wore wild clothes (fancy type suits), weird hairdos and makeup. So, it was a look and a sound. Crowded House reflects a more mature, less flashy band, but with excellent songs and this CD is a nice compilation.

If you haven't heard Crowded House or you regard them as a one-hit wonder only for "Don't Dream It's Over," give this a listen. You may find a new favorite band.
