It's 1957, and Hollywood horror director James Whale's heyday as the director of "Frankenstein," "Bride of Frankenstein" and "The invisible man" is long behind him. Retired and a semi-recluse, he lives his days accompanied only by images from his past. When his dour housekeeper Hannah hires handsome young gardener Clayton Boone, the gay director and the simple yardman develop an unlikely friendship.

Whales didn`t swish! He just outrely march to the beat of his own orchestra! This film deals with his mysterious death, and his 'fondling' of Brenden Fraser is a blatant attempt (mind you, a self-centered, thoughtless one) to provoke this young man into killing him so Whale doesn't have to face the nightmare of mindless dementia! A pretty good film.

One of the strangest random stories to be so sublime that I've ever seen.
