Even though there are few, if any, genres as distinctly American, as the western, the shelf of classic western literature is very small. "The Virginian" maybe (Even if it's pretty bad.), some Elmore Leonard, "Lonesome Dove," Cormac McCarthy, "Little Big Man," and, well,I'm out of titles. "The Ox-Bow Incident" is on that shelf, and this edition even has an introduction by Wallace Stegner. Clark brings a psychological depth to the genre that is usually lacking. He was from Maine, but settled in Nevada. Made into a film with Henry Fonda.
