Just participated in a webinar with the authors. They posit that our land-based missiles don't serve any purpose, even of deterrence, with increased accuracy of any incoming missiles, and the versatility of the other parts of our nuclear arsenal, aboard bombers and submarines. All current and future land-based missiles do is to paint us into a corner in which we think we have to make decisions about a possible imminent nuclear attack in minutes, whereas, such decisions can be made in relative calm. And the plans for updating land-based missiles are outdated and extremely wasteful.
