First, Tom Waits’ Way Down In The Hole covered by the Blind Boys Of Alabama. Great!

Second, this is a very good series. One of the best I’ve ever seen.

If you can’t tolerate criminals then don’t watch this series. There is violence and bad language.

If you are compelled to watch a serious endeavour to understand human behaviour and life then, by all means, watch this series.

Life isn’t simple or easy. Life for police and black peoples isn’t easy. Every life matters, imo.

All I know for a fact is that no one ever hears about black on black violence. As of Wednesday there have been 134 homicides in Baltimore this year. 239 non-fatal shootings.

The Wire helps explain American inner cities to this rural dweller. You get to see life isn’t black or white.

The Wire is an incredibly good TV show, one of the best ever, absolutely addicting, I know because I've been told so for years and years, so with that in mind I struggled through 3 whole episodes wondering what is wrong with me. Results: I'm bored, and I believe I've turned into a racist now. As for the most brilliant TV show of all time, at least 3 episodes of listening to these charming characters banter has provided plenty of creative ideas about where you can stick it!

10 years ago I loved The Wire but now I think it's totally boring. Nothing really happens and it's so slow moving. After the first disc I gave up in frustration.

I don't like how the African Americans are mostly the bad people, the drug pushers and users in poor area of town. This show is so stereotypical I think it's borderline racist. Of course the good guy is a great looking white guy, what else is new.

Just do what Portugal has done legalize all drugs, it shouldn't be a crime to do a drug of your own choice. At least Trudeau got it right with marijuana.

Best word to describe this series: ennui.

Very compelling. How prevalent is the connection between drug money and politics in the US?

I love the first two seasons!

Looking at all other comments and critics' rave reviews, there must be something wrong with me. I found The Wire Season I to be dull, boring and irritating. Cannot understand what the hype is all about. Did not like any of the main characters except Leamon and Kima. Poor D'Angelo is between a rock and a hard place. Sets were uninteresting (public housing and basement police office for the most part). Music not memorable. Bad language was over the top. More mean guys on both sides than one can imagine in reality. Sex in the Police Department's parking garage? Come on. Terrible!

This is one of my favourite television shows ever. It's smart, sad, funny, completely frustrating and totally engrossing.

I chose to watch this mini-series because of the very high ratings by critics. Now I guess I am in the minority. Although acting is good overall and the script well written, I simply did not find drug trade in Baltimore, and its associated killings and violence, interesting enough. I will take 'The Bridge' over this anytime.
