Matilda is a 1996 American fantasy comedy film directed by Danny Devito. It is based off Roald Dahl’s novel of the same name. The film is about a young genius named Matilda Wormwood who uses telekenisis to deal with her parents and older brother who do not value education, and Agatha Trunchbull who is the opressive principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School. The film was released in the United States on August 2nd 1996. The budget for the film was $36 million and the box office was $33 million. Danny Devito does an excellent job on touching on the viewpoints of children and their imaginations. This film is very relatable for everybody because all of us at one point in our life had to deal with horrible teachers like Agatha Trunchbull in some way. Overall, I would give this movie a 7/10. The dialog is brilliant, the humour is both bold and subtle and the characters are archetypal. The idea that bad people (even adults) deserve to be punished for their evil ways (even by children) is truly game changing. Any child can also relate to how annoying it is to get in trouble and not be able to do anything about it. Despite all the difficulties Matilda faces, like all good fantasy movies, the ending of the movie is truly magical.

Superb, wonderful, and a queer-coded classic! For all of us who've been a Matilda, it reminds us that our real family is who loves us and who we choose to love, not just who happened to make us. In a world of Trunchbowls, we can become Miss Honey.

I liked this comedy science fiction DVD. It is good for all ages. Matilda applies her untapped mental powers to rid the school of the evil, child-hating headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, and restore her nice teacher, Miss Honey, to financial security.

I felt like the movie a bit unrealistic for children but overall was a great watch. The movie is essentially about a smart child (Matilda) who is born into a home; where the people who live in it is the exact opposite of Matilda. Being the smartest person in that house, Matilda grew up all alone without the tenderness and love that is supposed to be shown to her by her family. I feel like a lot of kids that’s in a situation similar to Matilda will enjoy this movie because it shows the world that sometimes your biological family might not be your real family. Then Matilda in the movie goes on to face trials and tribulations for multiple antagonists. This movie teaches children and teens too that sometimes it takes a long time for you to find happiness and love but to not give up by then. Overall I would absolutely recommend this movie, it was a fantastic movie to watch. 4/5 stars

Based off of the novel of the same name, Matilda the movie was directed by Danny DeVito, and produced by Michael Shamberg. Matilda is about a young girl with supernatural powers, who lives in a toxic environment surrounded by her neglectful parents, and a bully of a brother. Matilda finds solace in her teacher, Miss. Honey, and also makes several friends once entering a new school. I find this movie a classic, and the acting is phenomenal throughout. This is definitely one of my childhood favourites, and if you haven’t seen this movie yet, I recommend you check this out now! I would rate this movie 4.5/5.

This movie will warm your heart and excite your mind through the eyes of Matilda. Matilda is a young gifted girl with a heart of gold, and sadly, very distant parents. To make matters worse, the school principal Ms. Trunchbull is an absolute monster who bullies all the students. Luckily, Matilda discovers that she has the power of telekinesis and begins defending herself and her friends from the evil principal, and also forms a close relationship with her teacher Miss Honey. This movie will shock you and warm you as you see the struggles of this gifted girl looking for a positive light. The message of the film is that sometimes the best relationships are the ones you choose yourself, and that even when things seem bleak there is still hope. I would rate this film 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who may feel different and are seeking a happy ending.

This is an amazing movie! It is based around Matilda Wormwood, a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father and mother. Worse, Agatha Trunchbull, the evil principal at Matilda's school, is a terrifyingly strict bully. However, when Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull's wrath and fight back against her unkind parents. This is one of my favourite movies. I love the ending to this movie, it brings justice to the Wormwood’s and she lives her happy life with her teacher, who is now her mom. My favourite character would have to be Matilda because she is kind, mature and very smart. I love how relatable this movie is. Overall, this is a fantastic movie to watch on the weekends. 5/5.

Rented for my almost 6 year old daughter and she loved it. Said she wishes she knew how to do magic and wants to watch it again

Oh good you got this movie I don't know when you got it but I am so glad that you got it I remember I asked you to get it and you did it is the same movie I wanted you to get I can't believe it yes you got it i wanted to borrow this movie from my cousin but my mom told me not to barrow movies and she did have it on VHS and she still has it on VHS but they live in Toronto so i just finished watching this movie and i loved it it was also on TV on Teletoon it's so cool how they always put movies on TV so than you don't need to buy it. the best part i like is when the boy was getting chocolate cake the part i think it's funny is when the principal throws a littile girl over the fench the part i hate i don't like is when the principal keeps the kids later after school in the gym and that Matilda has mean parents and that they tell her to not to read books.and i think it's weard that her Parents don't let her read books and telll her to watch t.v instend. oct 25 2014

“Both Matilda and Lavender were enthralled. It was quite clear to them that they were at this moment standing in the presence of a master. Here was somebody who had brought the art of skulduggery to the highest point of perfection, somebody, moreover, who was willing to risk life and limb in pursuit of her calling. They gazed in wonder at this goddess, and suddenly even the boil on her nose was no longer a blemish but a badge of courage.”
