"Caterina moves with her family from the small town of Montalto di Castro to Rome. The sensitive and intelligent young girl enrolls in the eighth grade in one of the most prestigious schools in the capital, where she finds her class totally divided between the snobbish, radical chic and reactionary, spoiled brats. Worse, her own father, a frustrated professor, begins to manipulate her as he sees in the parents of her new school acquaintances the possibility for him to achieve a long dreamed of writing career"--Riverside Studios.

Funny, warm, sometimes poignant tale of a teenage girl who moves from the rural coast of Italy to her father’s childhood home in the cosmopolitan capitol of Rome. On the school front, she’s challenged by the two battling, wealthy cliques: the party-happy, Valley-Girlish right-wingers and the protest-loving, Gothic-leaning left wingers. Each leader takes a turn inviting her to explore their world, with sometimes disastrous, sometimes funny results (shoplifting, casual sex, fascism, paparazzi, gilded mansions, late-night pool parties, poetry, and some firsts: first tattoo, first hangover, first kisses.) On the home front, there’s a soulful, shirtless guitar player across the courtyard with a view into their apartment, who catches her eye. In the meantime, her parents start to realize their marriage is failing. The father is a hotheaded, often self-focused teacher who bumbles in social-climbing as he pushes Caterina to associate with the daughters of influential elite. The mother is a meek traditional housewife, assumed to be happy caring for a sickly aunt, whose interest gets piqued by a neighbor. Whether Caterina can achieve her post-high school goal of music school is in doubt (the gifted actress, Alice Teghil, who plays Caterina, bears some resemblance to Emma Watson.)
