Pretentious and smug (not to mention occasionally sexist lyrics). Jackson aches to be taken seriously as a jazz artist (that cover photo!), but this proves why he'll never get there. He has absolutely no feel for the music, as these lifelessly-performed but technically perfect songs illustrate. Worst offender: "You Can't Get What You Want," which gets everything wrong, including the obvious ... it's not, as Jackson insists, that "you can't get WHAT you want 'til you know WHAT you want" -- anyone who speaks English knows it should be "you can't GET what you want 'til you KNOW what you want." Jackson puts the accents on all the wrong syllables throughout this tepid LP.
