I liked this film. But I hated Clerks II - thought of it as one of the most awful films ever made.

I saw this thing when it first came out in 1994 and nothing in it stuck to my memory.

Second time around - the sophomoric humour is quite dated and the acting (especially the women) is extremely wooden and contrived.

The theme is basically a good idea, but the treatment as an obscene sitcom is not. Maybe somebody like Sean Baker can make a more profound attempt at showing the life of early twenties layabouts/sweat shop workers.

Watched the 2006 Clerks II, in color, a month ago and enjoyed its theatrical adult humor. This 1994 B/W prequel is also a very fun watch, with the same male lead actors/characters (Dante and Randal, Silent Bob and Jay) and staged like a sitcom. Randle is the genius who spoke like a crusty main-stream philosopher. Again, stay away if you dislike the crude language and sexual references in "Clerks II," "Get Hard 2015," "Trainwreck 2015," "The Heat 2013," "Chi-Raq 2015," "Deadpool 2016/2018, " Sausage Party 2016," "The Brothers Grimsby 2016," etc ...

This film reminds me of a Steven Wright joke: I went to 24 hour convenience store where the clerk was locking up just as I arrived, so I said, "what are you doing, you're supposed to be open 24 hours?" & the clerk replied, "not in a row." This film has a $27,000 budget, a script that crams as many quirky scenes & dialogue that it can into one day at a convenience store, and a cast that carries the film with relatively believable execution.

Must enjoy potty humour and are a bit of a negative nelly to enjoy its nuances; either that, or you are in fact a conveniece store clerk and your life truly does suck.

A definite comedic classic Indie film from the 90's. Kevin Smith's directorial debut about a couple of twenty-somethings jockeying a convenience/video store in New Jersey. I first saw the film in the late 90's when I was a teenager and became an instant View Askew fan from then on.
