I was actually pretty disappointed with this book. There is a lot of information about why green cleaning is important, if you're looking for that. There is good info on decluttering, but for someone who claims to be a simple green cleaner she seems a little bit conventionally neurotic. I don't agree with her opinions of avoiding unpasteurized dairy, and it seems rather out of place for a cleaning book. Plus, what kind of organic cleaning book actually recommends using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for cleaning marks off wall?! I find her very misinformed.

"Organic Housekeeping" (or "Green Housekeeping" as titled for the newer paperback version) is a useful and informative guide to green cleaning and organizing. Ellen Sandbeck will help you to enjoy your home more by simplifying your cleaning process, using non-toxic cleaners and time saving techniques. It is a lighthearted and highly readable book full of common sense, practical and inexpensive tips some of which go back to good old-fashioned advice. “Clean it, don’t chemically contaminate it!” that is what Ellen says.

The chapters are well organized by parts of the house you are dealing with. The book includes a bibliography, list of internet resources, and excellent index, which makes it a useful reference guide.

I am not new to green cleaning, I replaced the conventional cleaners long time ago, but there was still plenty for me to learn from Ellen. I found extremely useful the chapter on the low-maintenance bathroom as well as the chapter on organizing and decluttering. Ellen also taught me how to get my cleaning job done with the least amount of work and time possible.

If you are interested in cleaning in an inexpensive and more eco-friendly way as well as spending less time scrubbing your home, this is a great book for you.
