I actually enjoy a lot of Glass' works. The mantra-like repetition appeals to me on some level and it certainly helps me to listen while I work.
Having said that, I have to admit that this album of Glass organ works is a little annoying. It's funny that when the disc began to play, I kept wanting to get up and check that it was skipping because the repetition is so jarring on the pipe organ given the pure tones.
Then it hit me, how would you even know if it was skipping?

A noble, honorable attempt to impart substance to P. Glass's vaporous music. The late organist Donald Joyce was a tremendously gifted performer, and here it's how he infuses the material that outshines the material itself. The two Dances are endurance tests, to be sure, yet Mad Rush and Contrary Motion evoke a sense of mystery. Only the Hindu-inflected final cut stands out as a total loss.
