Chris Claremont is renowned for his 16 year or so run on the X-men, and rightly so, having defined the modern X-men and given other writers a very fertile ground to work from. X-men Forever picks up where he left the books back in the 90's at the end of his acclaimed run. And while a lot of the stuff in the books is . . . *sighs* sorely missing in today's comics, the book does not read like its 1992 or whenever. At times it feels like Claremont has been inspired by what transpired since he left the book. Gone is the pioneer and trailblazer and in his place is the Old Master trying to reclaim some of the long gone thunder and lightning from his initial tenure on the book. Think of it as George Lucas and his sad prequels. Though in all honesty, Claremont doesn't sink that low, he does offer up an interesting story and a lot of mysteries which I'm sure will pay off later in the books. I liked it, I just didn't love it and while I'm sure I'll try the rest of the series, I don't think it'll be anytime soon. Too many new comics to try.
