Wow. Another very dark and very engrossing offering from this author. Her first, Sharp Objects, was probably more jarring and shocking, and therefore more memorable, but this was also an excellent read. Libby was an infuriating and unlikable "heroine," but I kept my hopes up about her nevertheless. I won't reveal if that panned out or not. If you like an edgy and unsettling thriller, you'll like this.

I finished it, but it was difficult to get thru. No my favorite read.

This book is pretty depressing. It was kind of hard to get through. The story moved slowly.

Congratulations to those who gave up on this book. I didn't. I made the mistake of wasting my life away on revealing the big surprise at the end. Because nothing could explain the story, and when everything was to be explained at the end, it was laughably the worst ending I've ever read in my life. Nothing connects properly, it doesn't make sense, and you'll look back at the rest of the book with pity because everything she did she did for effect. People just don't do that.

I am a big fan of Gillian Flynn, and this was an engaging read for the most part. It was hard to get into a rhythm of reading --Libby comes of as an incredibly annoying character initially, but it is interesting to see her point of view change over the course of the book. The ending was a bit anti-climactic in my opinion, but it was a decent read overall.

This is my favorite Gillian Flynn novel. It has a very tight and credible plot, which unravels at a relatively quick pace. The plot tracks real world events in a very believable way.

Absolutely loved this book. Pretty gruesome at times, but not too much. The ending is incredibly satisfying, leaving my mouth wide open for a good twenty pages!

After reading Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl, I decided to read her earlier works.  Well, it took me awhile (I at least was reading other things) but I finally found the chance to read Dark Places.  It was very good.  Really I can sum up in a few words:

"Yep, that was dark."

A gripping novel with well developed characters and provides a realistic insight into 1st world poverty and however I found the mother's life decision to be a bit unbelievable/a sensationalism bend. If you liked " Room", this novel is similar.
