"Welcome to Nollywood provides a fascinating look into the newly emerging Nigerian film industry, exploring its inner workings and introducing viewers to Nollywood's passionate auteurs. Through clips and on-set visits, we meet Chico Ejiro, aka "Mr. Prolific," a filmmaker who has made over a hundred films. We follow the production of an epic war film by Izu Ojukwu, a young Nollywood director who is known for his high intensity action films. Both directors battle limited budgets, frequent power outages, mutinous casts, and none of the infrastructure that supports other national cinemas."--Container.

Welcome to Nollywood says a lot about modern culture. Nigeria has a fairly well developed economy by African standards, but their motion picture industry is really based on DVD's. They crank out a number of comparable to Bollywood and they sell enough to make large profits for some producers, but are mostly seen at homes. This documentary lets the viewer sit through some scenes and listen to producers and directors. One of the most interesting story line was about one producer who had lined up an expensive array of actors and technicians, but was unable to get enough money to continue filming a movie. It was stopped and later resumed when financing was made available. From what was shown I would say their productions are uneven in quality, but more modern and sensible than I would have supposed.
