This 1972, low-budget film from Jamaica was the film that almost single-handedly launched Reggae Music's vast popularity in Canada and The States. There are some really great tunes in this film, like - "You Can Get It If You Really Want It" and "Many Rivers To Cross"._____ Country-boy, Ivan Martin, played by Jimmy Cliff, comes to the the big city of Kingston in hopes of making it as a singer. Ivan ends up taking on various menial jobs in order to make ends meet._____ The Harder They Come is a very crude, but, nonetheless, powerful film that, over the years, has managed to become something of an underground, cult classic.

Where have the subtitles gone? When I first saw this movie it came with subtitles and I needed them. Only a Jamaican can understand the patois spoken in this film.

this movie has a soundtrack that is 100 times better than empire records, and 50 times better than romeo and juliet. it is some of the best reggae of all time and it is starring the legendary jimmy cliff. i would recommend it to people who enjoy pink floyd's the wall, or documentaries like afro punk. the look of the film is quite gritty but it moves like fresh spun vinyl.
