Simply engrossing.

Movie Reviewer Richard Schickel nudges Scorcese here, but rarely intrudes. A fine balance.

Scorsese is witty, insightful, authoritative--of course, about the movies, even more knowledgeable than Schickel--and often revealing, not just about how his movies were made (and often, why), but how making them affected him.

It's fairly new, so that it encompasses more recent work such as Shutter Island (2010) and discussions about The Silence, which, after decades of thought and effort, was finally released in 2016.

A serious film fan...or maybe want to be? Start here.

Even if you haven't seen all of Mr. Scorsese's films ( which I haven't ), you'll find this in-depth look at every aspect of his career to be most interesting, informative and entertaining. His knowledge of the entire history of film is beyond encyclopedic, and he is able to discuss other directors' films with the same cheerful insight he applies to his own. Be advised, some of the photo stills are graphic.,
