"The Red Shoes" + "Repulsion" = "Black Swan"

I thought the conclusion of the film was really well done; it just take awhile to get there.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky in 2010 based on an original story by Andres Heinz, this American pseudo-psychological drama delves into rivarly between two ballerinas.
Although Natalie Portman superbly plays a talented but dangerously unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom, the story seems so ill-contrived that I felt cheated at the near end.
In a nutshell, even a great director could NOT make a good movie out of a bad script.
The director should not fool the viewers.

Black Swan was, without question, a really heavy-handed and depressingly bleak look at the escalating insanity of a dreary and delusional ballerina. Actress, Natalie Portman was clearly the wrong choice for the title character.

Dreary! Can't even give it one star. Watched the entire movie only because I kept thinking it would get better, boy was I wrong. This movie is not a good endorsement of ballet.

This psychological thriller and mystery follow Nina, a ballerina who has perfected her technique and dedicated her life to the art. Nina is a shoe-in for the role of the White Swan, a very important role in their new performance, however, new dancer Lily enters the scene and becomes her main competition. As Lily personifies the Black Swan, Nina reveals the most twisted aspects of herself. This film is captivating, exciting, and mysterious all at once. It may frighten you or intrigue you, however, I would rate it 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to those seeking something new. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

Black Swan is a haunting and disturbing movie but keeps people on edge at all times throughout the film. Natalie Portman does an exceptional job of illustrating innocence and tarnished femininity. And the production crew does their best at keeping eerie atmospheres known. Costumes are outstanding, and the editing is hands down the best horror creation despite the technology back in late 2010. Even the storyline itself makes it the reason why the film is so critically acclaimed and loved by psychological thriller buffs. Of course, the movie being a playoff of the more known "Swan Lake", ballet play, the film takes on the deeper meaning of womanhood and growing apart from the innocence and how society treats it. Whether that be vulgar language, sexuality, drug intake or drinking, the whole message centring and chaining the similarities to Odette's purity and current women's innocence is vast and drastic, making this movie perfect for psychological analysis'. It showed how as soon as women go through changes, the people around them start to treat them differently. Her mother becomes distressed; her teacher becomes invasively sexual with her and her female counterparts and colleagues see her as a threat and competition in the hands of a male. Black Swan will always be timeless even through nerve-racking imagery. 4.5/5. @moonlightbae of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Great kudos to Aronofsky as director, who made the movie avoiding kind of "traumas" or other "psychological" puzzles or so on
That makes the movie really interesting to watch
On the philosophical layer that story is of course kind of BS and probably worth debunking: Thomas easily would be fired for his indecent behavior and anyway that a myth propagated by assholes from Hollywood that making deprivation is "helpful" for innocent souls because is making them able to deeper express own desires
No, I am not buying that BS - entertainment world is full of corruption and fake prophesies, who love creating myths and legends.
That's true that many real artists are really "bad guys" and their weaknesses are making them rebellious but it is also true that artistic world is full of no-talent slugs , who used those myths about "deeper levels" for their own advantage.
Again - another Aronofsky movie worth to discuss with young people in high school, who are yearning for black swan experience. With proper explanation.

Definitely had me intrigued in the beginning but towards the end it came off as cheesy and rushed. Didn't like Natalie Portman's docile character (even though she killed it at the end) Mila was solid though but overall a decent watch.

This film possibly opens with a nightmare sequence, a dance with a man, that then appears with feathers and a black plastic face BUT not that of a swan. The nightmare becomes apparent, when Nina (the Ballerina) wakes. It becomes less clear what is real, or psychosis generated - for instance the pealing of skin from her finger, later seen intact. The Ballet Director complains she is ridged, technique perfect but no real seduction. His emphatic urging sees him get bitten, 40min in! Our concerns for the safety and sanctity of Nina is very much heightened by the Director's announcement of the retirement of one of the older stars, whose shock and dismay suggest this hadn't been discussed with her! How ruthless! The Star then has (accident?). He asks Nina's dance partner if he would fuck her. Then urges Nina to go home and "Touch yourself". This she tries but is abruptly halted when she sees mum, sleeping in a chair in her room! __MUMS PLEASE TAKE NOTE - AND MIND YOUR OWN BLOODY BUSINESS!!__ Nina's life consists of being at home (with her control freak mum) OR the ballet company rehearsal and changing rooms - with the tube train in between. She doesn't mix with the other ballerinas. Nina also has concerns with a rash on the back of her shoulder, that may be sprouting black swam feathers. Her mum notes her long hours and expresses concern. "Don't make my mistake". Then revealing she gave up ballet to have Nina... . __EVERYONE'S__ love interest, that wee hottie Mila Kunis, arrives as Lilly, the natural and uninhibited dancer. .. Director points Lilly out to Nina, heightening the prospects for disaster. There is a hint that it may be some of the connivances going on around Nina that acerbate her condition. Lilly takes her out for a night of fun, seduces her. Nina arrives back at rehearsal some (days?) late and we see Lilly has the role! We see Nina stabbing Lilly. AT this point, I crack my head mightily upon the TV screen, attempting to save Mila. The concussion sees me typing GIBBERISH. YOU may then see Nina, struggling to hide the body. Which she only manages just in time, to avoid discovery!! The last scenes see Nina in lead roll, again with the overly effective swan mask... ! Now on her! Also the feathers from the rash have SPREAD all over her body!! Lilly made it back from being murdered, to dance supporting role... ! Perhaps thanks to my attempted intervention.. . My head still hurts mightily! :-( !
