As other reviewers have pointed out, this book is not as neutral as its title would make it seem; Sowell is an adherent of the Chicago school of economics, which advocates that A) capitalism is the most preferable economic system and B) within capitalism, less government intervention is preferable, in general. Sowell argues these two points throughout; he does furnish sound and plentiful evidence, and he does frequently also include perspectives from other economic schools, but even an adherent of a different school of capitalism—for example, Keynesianism—would probably object to this book being presented as a neutral explainer of economic principles, let alone an adherent of an economic school that eschews capitalism altogether, such as Marxism.

Inasmuch as this book is actually a "Layman's explanation of Chicago economics," or "Basic economics from a Chicago school perspective," it is enjoyable; most libertarians or conservatives can probably bolster their economic arguments by reading (/listening to) it, and most liberals or leftists can probably bolster their rebuttals to the same arguments.

As far as the quality of the audiobook, it's one of the better ones I've heard; Tom Weiner's voice is like butter, and he conveys Sowell's intended tone exceptionally well. This is certainly content that is easy to focus on in the audio format.

Very good book on basic economics without the usage of graphs. It preaches on minimum government intervention and let the market determine the economy.
