While not gritty, the crimes are violent. But psychology teacher Tony Hill has a good understanding of the criminal mind and finds himself assisting the police in apprehending the psychotic criminals.

The brilliant trick of this pilot episode is....they make you believe you see MUCH more than you do. And EUSEI: The `sickening behavior` I believe you`re referring to is due to the fact Hill, being broken himself, refuses to toss anyone away, especially if, like the founding profilers of Quantico, he can learn something from the offender that will help law enforcement track down and stop the next one. And there is always a next one (there are 36 to 38 serial killers loose in the United States at any given moment. And approximately one and a half million people sociopathic enough to become one.)

Very graphic violence. And unfortunately not subtitled. The spoken English is very rapid and not always understandable.

At times difficult to watch, but like Dexter, excellently written, acted, and paced. Robson Green is fantastic as a psychologist hired by the police to ferret out serial killers, though socially he's probably on the autism spectrum himself. Though sometimes "over-directed", this series keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This was a very disturbing series. We had to force ourselves to watch the first episode, but that was as far as we were able to go. What kind of sicko creates a story like this—and what kind of actor enjoys playing the sicko himself? The torture that begins with only mentions, escalates to very graphic scenes, highly disturbing and sickening. I saw Robson Green in “Ain’t Misbehain’” and enjoyed his performance; he diminished himself by playing the wacky psychologist in this series! There are scenes in which he talks to himself: he jumps from seat to seat of two chairs, asking and answering his own questions. And his behavior in the last scene was disgusting, really.

The writing and acting in this production is wonderful. Robson Green plays Dr. Hill beautifully.

Excellent. Twists and turns.

I recommend this! It's elegant, intelligent, and addictive. Do you like Mad Men? Tony Hill is the same kind of dark, fascinating, old-fashioned man as Don Draper (except broken on the outside -- socially incompetent). The chemistry between the characters is incredible. As I said in another review, the squeamish might want to skip episode 1, which is the most horrifying of the bunch. I suggest using "fast-forward" and "mute" buttons in the scary parts.

Excellent adaptation of a Val McDermid novel, but her material is so exceptional that it would be difficult for the outstanding British TV engine to mess it up. Robson Green and Hermione Norris are perfect as the dark Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Tony Hill, and the driven DCI, Carol Jordan, who hires him to help solve a grizzly crime. Far beyond the usual British "Whodunit" and not for the weak of heart. Graphic.
