Movie Mondays: SNL stars get (mostly) serious

Dozens of Saturday Night Live cast members have gone on to have movie careers (to varying success). While comedies are still king for SNL stars, they occasionally find their way in a drama – or at least a “dramedy” that gives each star the chance to be funny and exercise their acting chops (earning Eddie Murphy a Golden Globe nomination in Dreamgirls, for instance, and accolades for Will Fort (more)

Silly film. Will Ferrell should stick to SNL, and he isn't that funny on it either.

Is everything Jim Carrey performs in a "comedy"? No. There may be some truly comic "bits" in The Truman Show, but that terrific movie is NOT what comes to mind when somebody says, Jim Carrey and "comedy."

People who expected a laugh-fest (as old time movie posters would phrase it) get the lesson here.

This is a very good movie. A memorable one, too. You'll smile. You'll chuckle. But those smiles and chuckles are best described here as "rueful." Some lessons here, provided with a deft, light hand.

Nice work by "funny guy" Farrell; gives me new respect for someone I usually don't choose to see. Comedy is...er...funny that way.

Quite an unexpected departure from the norm for Will Ferrell. Poignant. Deep. The young actor was very mature for his age, too.

Will has many dud films! Big box office budgets and little substance---but this is refreshing---Will Ferrell can be a seriously good actor, and he shines in this one! My favourite 'Will Movie' to date--

A slice of an unhappy life brought about by his own undoing. With a constant beer in his hand he never gained my sympathy. My stepfather was a heavy beer drinker, and I hated it then and made a choice to follow a different path as soon as I left home. His epiphany was long overdue.

Sooooooo stupid.
Maybe 12 year olds would like this. Amazing what we watch when we are on our 4th day of rain and wind.

Don't be fooled. Will Ferrell's performance is fine, but don't expect even a chuckle.

This was a very good movie, however, I was a bit surprise that it was classified as comedy. I did not find anything funny about it.

Really great movie. Not a comedy at all. Will ferrell is fascinating to watch in a dramatic role. Touching relationships with Samantha and Kenny. Great ending that leaves you feeling bouyant. Highly recommend. Watch the special features.
