Tokyo Drifter is a film from fame Japanese rebel director Seijun Suzuki. Story wise it’s very much by the numbers ninkyo (chivalrous) film from Nikkatsu. It’s the pop-art direction of Suzuki that makes this movie better than its simple plot. One can see his style in full swing in this film and it makes it more strange and interesting than its plot deserves. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who is looking for a good sixties yakuza tall or anyone who might like Tarantino’s Kill Bill because this is one of the movies that inspired that piece of work.
