This was a quiet but somewhat powerful movie. I felt incredibly sad at the end of it. I'm not sure if it was the quality of the film or the subject matter striking close to home but it really touched me.

Because of the accolades on the DVD cover my expectation was high. This film turned out to be disappointing, watchable only for its uncommon plot and locale. The lead actress' performance was wooden, and her character not very credible. In the hand of a better director I think the film can come out much better. As is, it is no 'Lost in Translation' which is far, far more superior.

Unconvincing characters. Obviously, the film makers and actors are not native Japanese. The heroine's Japanese is too strange for a native Japanese. Also, even 10 year-old kids in Japan know minimum English to say 'thank you'"sorry' "hello" or 'good bye", but the heroine keeps speaking the strange Japanese and refuse to speak these simple basic English. Because of that, the heroine fails to express the isolation and loneliness that "Lost In Translation" showed. Instead, she looked like a complete idiot or aloof.

Quiet film about interpersonal relationships both within and beyond ethnic boundaries. I enjoyed it.
