So many great reviews of this book. I was enjoying it until the ridiculous baby thing in the first chapter and didn't get past it. "Magical realism" can be fantastic (Charles de Lint) but when it doesn't ease you into it, you're just thinking, "Yeah like that would happen". That's how I felt with this. Others seem to have really enjoyed it though.

This novel is a little too self-consciously offbeat and in the end, just too silly.

Has all the elements of the sort of book I enjoy reading -- but for some reason I didn't truly enjoy it.

Bizarre story line but is a great fun read. Very funny and an enjoyable read.

Dan, Dan, Dan - how do I love thee? Lots and lots. This is writing that you lose yourself in and don't want to get out. Funny, clever, touching and unexpected - he knows how to weave a story. Takes the mickey out of art and hipster artists etc, but never with malice. Brilliant.

This quirky comedy of the absurd was a refreshing change to read. Delightful characters and good humour (slightly on the dark side).

enjoyably silly, with some very stylish writing + black humour alert.
