Writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nia Vardalos firmly believed she was supposed to be a mom, but Mother Nature and modern medicine stood in her way. So she made a choice that shocked friends, family, and even herself: with only fourteen hours' notice, she adopted a preschooler. This is Vardalos's hilarious and poignant true chronicle of trying to become a mother while fielding nosy "frenemies" and Hollywood reporters. With her signature wit and candor, she describes her and husband Ian Gomez's bumpy road to parenting, how they found their daughter, and what happened next. Vardalos includes a comprehensive how-to-adopt section and explores innovative ways to conquer the challenges all new moms face, from sleep to personal grooming. She learns that whether via biology, relationship, or adoption--motherhood comes in many forms.--From publisher description.

This good humored book about the author's struggles with fertility, experience with adoption, and life as a new parent is relatable and charming! I enjoyed this book but was surprised to stumble upon a chapter that describes the event and emotional aftermath of the author being followed home from a shopping mall and mugged. Readers should just be aware that this content is lurking in an otherwise very peaceful book!

Very funny and at the same time truthful. Not your regular celebrity autobiography. Refreshing.

I haven't adopted, but parenting is the same no matter how the child arrives. I laughed out loud at some of their experiences.

bham2013 Very readable and relate-able, the actress and screenwriter shares her journey to parenthood. This inside look at one experience with the fos-adopt system both shares some of the ups and downs of parenthood and introduces another route to domestic adoption. Entertaining reading whether or not you want to adopt!

The cover caught my attention and I was not disappointed! What a funny and heartfelt book.

I love that Vardolos focused her book not on her pain and disappointment but on the circumstances that led her to her beautiful and outgoing three-year-old daughter.
Recommended reading for those interested in adoption, if you don't mind the totally irrelevant but entertaining side stories.

Using humor to describe a small part of the crazy world of foster care = great entertainment + useful information. Loved it!
