First off, I would like to point out that this film has wonderful cinematography. I won't go into it in fear of writing spoilers, but I do like the artistic side.

Secondly, I would like to say that the acting was nicely done. Giovanni Ribisi did a marvelous job as the shy, Italian rookie cop/ translator. I, hands down think he is one of the most underrated actors. He is mostly known for playing "Frank" (Phoebe's brother on Friends), but has starred in other films such as "Saving Private Ryan" , "Avatar", "Ted", "Public Enemies" and others. This film shows that he has a lot of potential.

Lastly, I gave this film only 3 stars because of the story. It was just bad. Why couldn't she just shoot the drug dealer in the beginning, rather than planting a bomb? I hated how this film left me confused and with so many unanswered questions.

While I usually like Cate Blanchette, and she did a fine job in this movie, I just don't really get this story.

I cannot 100% side with the lead lady, played by Blanchett, for what she did in the name of revenge. For this reason I have discounted the film's merit. Still a watchable film of intrigue and revenge, and romance. Mainly in Italian with subtitles.

This is a very well written movie - not something that happens very often in popular movie making these days. It operates on two levels. The first level is the action movie characterized by high speed chases, gun-play, and close calls. If you only watch it on this level, it's still a fine movie. But there is a deeper level of interpretation present here. I won't tell you what it is because discovering it for yourself is the only way it will resonate truth. But I will give you a key: It all hinges on a single line our hero (Blanchett) says to the young police officer, "I was unfaithful to my husband once." If you understand this in context to the entire film, you'll begin to understand who all of the characters actually are and the whole film will take on new meaning. This is superb story telling.

Kate Blanchett was wonderful in this average movie.

This is superb film about love, retribution, and redemption. But ultimately it's about how, in our attempts to make meaning from our world, we often make connections in the most unexpected ways. Beyond that ... it's very hard to describe. Just see it!
