Art saves lives. Art changes society. Filmmaker Alison Klayman is given full access to this most provocative artist. Ai Weiwei's art is big and bold. It is impossible not to be moved by it. He entered the world stage with his design of the "Bird's Nest" stadium at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was the darling of the Chinese government, but then that same year, the Sichuan earthquake hit. The Chinese government tried to keep the number dead under wraps. Ai Weiwei used his notoriety to expose the names of the thousands of people including thousands of children. He used many forms of media. The Chinese government was finally forced to admit that tens of thousands died. Since then, Ai Weiwei has continued to provoke the Chinese government in an effort to improve human rights including freedom of speech. He has been surveilled, beaten and jailed, and his art studio destroyed by the Chinese government, but nothing will stop him. He has an ever growing following. Power to the people!

"If we don't push,
there's nothing happening.
But life is much more interesting
when we make a little bit of effort."
...~ Ai Weiwei

An activist artist loving his country, in the midst of an uncompromising police state.

I'm sooooo glad that I'm here instead !

One of the most controversial activists in China today showing that China needs a lot of human rights changes to be more democratic.

Mostly fawning but he's a pretty interesting, brave and entertaining guy.
