Provocative and chilling true story of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr., the son of a prison worker and a self-taught execution expert who consulted with prisons across the country to make capital punishment more humane. When Leuchter is called in as a high-profile expert in a sensationalized Canadian Nazi war crimes trial, his ego, bravado and absurd testimony reaches international media prominence. Ironically, what Leuchter thought was going to be an apex in his career serves to ruins it.

A sad, little story of a strange little man who has a strange vocation. He was co-opted by a section of the lunatic fringe to do something he was not qualified to do, to be an expert witness, regardless of what his qualifications may be as a consultant in the area of execution equipment. He ends up being in the public eye for all the wrong reasons and probably wishes the world would leave him alone. I am perfectly fine with granting him his wish. He doesn't need to get any undue attention from anyone and is more of a lost soul than a danger to society.

Leuchter slid from being a man who knew more about prison death machines than perhaps anyone in the US prison system to being a vandal wandering at will through German death camps chipping away chunks of concrete wall and pieces of brick with the aim of supplying proof to deniers of the Holocaust.

another just-the-facts presentation by Morris.

This is a 1999 documentary directed by Errol Morris about execution technician Fred A. Leuchter.
Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. appears to be an honest, sincere and hard-working man who came to believe that he is a self-taught engineering expert.
Unfortunately, however, that was when and how his problem started.
He cannot speak and read German.
If he read German, he could have been able to read the original German documents regarding the gas chambers in the archives when he visited Poland.
Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. is dead wrong, but he should be able to tell whatever he believes is right even if it's wrong.
This is a thought-provoking documentary about the person called "Mr. Death."

An electric chair consultant, and all-round stupid guy, is hired as a Holocaust consultant. His discovery of his German heritage is moving, in a perverse way. Mr. Death is a documentary, not an Eastern European farce.

Mr. Death is a riveting documentary about corrupted ideals, flawed scientific logic, and the fragility of truth.... American, Fred Leuchter Jr., a self-taught engineer and often-consulted expert on execution devices all the across the USA, is hired in 1988 by Canadian, revisionist historian, Ernst Zundel, to "prove" that there were no gas chambers present in the Polish, WW2 concentration camps at Auschwitz.... Mr. Death is a complex yet lucid character study that inevitably evolves into a meditation on the roots of evil.
