Twenty-five years ago, ethnomusicologist Louis Sarno traveled from New Jersey to the forests of Central Africa to record the music of the Bayaka Pygmies. He fell in love with the people, their music, their lifestyle--and a local girl. Despite his failing health and the harsh realities of life in the village, he follows the Bayaka into the heart of the forest.

Its like being on a super-authentic budget backbacker adventure,.. but without being surrounded and plagued by hawkers.

It's a strange story in a strange land and well worth watching a film that tells such an unusual story.

I have to say I am slightly disappointed by Oka! Perhaps it is the acting, or perhaps it is the pace. Somehow I feel something is lacking in this tale of survival of a white man in unfamiliar environment. The shooting on-location in central Africa gives the film some redeeming value.
