I wish today’s books were still written this way! I cannot believe I was not encouraged to read this book throughout my education. It’s gorgeous! The writing is so carefully crafted that every word is necessary. The pictures that Alcott paints in her novel are so rich and true that the reader will clearly understand the trials and tribulations strong, independent women endured during the post Civil War era.

The reader for the audiobook version does a fantastic job as well. :)
