The story of an uncontaminated Sicilian island inhabited by fisherman. Still barely touched by tourism, the islanders have begun to alter their mentality and behavior as they realize the economic potential of this new industry. At the same time, they deal with illegal aliens flooding the island and a new law requiring them to turn back undocumented peoples seeking aid.

Good "on-the-homefront" story of local people in Southern Italy managing the influx of desperate refugees from Africa and other countries. The fishermen's code of saving lives at sea clashes with the local carabinieri's colder view and into this mix arrives self-centered, party-seeking tourists. How one family--including a boy on the cusp of manhood--chooses to resolve this challenge makes for a sympathetic story. Note: film is auto-subtitled in English.

Fairly good picture show about changing times, illegal aliens, loyalty and compromise. You only have a certain amount of time between now and when you die and you have to spend it doing something. If you're not going to go outside and plant a tree you might as well watch this.

Interesting movie about African illegals trying to enter Italy. The movie is a bit disjointed and doesn't flow well...the issue of widowhood/single mom and son or immigration.

This DVD movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance. Very predictable but still entertaining.

A 20 year-old young fisherman living on a volcanic island off the coast of Italy with his mother, uncle, and grandfather learns some of the important lessons of life. Sometimes the centuries old laws of the fishermen trump the laws of modern Italy. This a truly unique film
