Movie Mondays: Don’t Judge a Romance by most Rom-Coms

2013 was a year of great debates – about health care, gay marriage, recreational marijuana….and whether Love Actually is a good or a bad movie. It seems that for every person who defends its poignant charm, there is someone to deride it for its treacly sentimentality. (more)

Matinee said it almost all, and there is only little to be added. This is a perfect rom dramedy, and I was glad to see "Elaine" in a movie as great as Seinfeld was as a sitcom. Being a human being, it is embarrassing to see there are specimens among Homo sapiens who have so little sense of humor that they do not at least like, if not love this movie.

If one can call it a romance it would be incorrect - let us just call it a friendly relationship with no strings attached - or was there? At least the movie keep ones interest to see it thru to the end.

Ugh, I hated this movie! So boring and full of profanity. Such a shame that this had to be James Gandofini's last performance. Very disappointing.

"Better than average romantic comedy" is a huge understatement. Great dialogues, great acting and directing. How can anyone with any brains not like this lovely, funny romantic comedy is beyond my imagination. Of course, the average American movie-goer likes cars to explode and blood oozing from dead bodies, preferentially naked. Sorry pals, there is nothing of that kind in this movie. Fortunately. Five stars without hesitation.

ENOUGH SAID is a quiet and quirky little movie. I'd recommend it for ANYONE who has gone through a divorce and has tried to pick up the pieces. It isn't exactly a romantic comedy, but more of a romantic story. Gandalfini really shines in this movie as a quiet bear of a man, very unlike Tony Soprano. I wasn't as struck with Julie Louis-Dreyfuss who really seemed to be reliving her Seinfeld role.

The plotline is a little confusing, perhaps needlessly so, but if you can hang onto the gist of the story - which is that middle-aged dating can be awkward and damned difficult and that life rarely moves in a straight line, then you should be alright with it.

I recommend curling up with somebody you care about, with a good red wine and a slab of cheese.

This film presents a rather awkward relationship for Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini. They handled it well, but would have liked to have seen more from them. Too bad James Gandolfini is no longer with us. I'm sure he is missed in the industry because I miss him as an audience. Not to mention his family and close friends. I enjoyed the watch. Catherine Keener is very good. A different kind of role for her a well. All in all, I enjoyed the film.

I thought this film was embarrassingly poor. These actors should have done better. A plot and a script would have helped.

Enough Said is a rare chance to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a movie, and I recommend seizing the opportunity to see her in this dramedy and indie film. Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini are excellent in their roles. The movie does a good job of capturing the awkwardness of dating, especially at a certain age, and how we can be so critical of those we care about and of our exes. Enough Said feels very real. I also recommend the other movies Nicole Holofcener has written and directed: Please Give, Friends with Money, Lovely & Amazing and, one of my all-time favorite films, Walking and Talking.

I loved Gandolfini as the love interest. Wasn't expecting that.

Nothing really special, but a lot of fun nonetheless. This isn't the kind of movie you analyze, but sit back and enjoy the quirky fun. James Gandolfini was awesome... I sort of fell in love with him myself. Some of the secondary plots were lost on me, but the primary one kept my attention. I've said enough.

Eva: You have, like, eighty million toothbrushes.
Albert: I do?
Eva: Yeah.
Albert: I only use one of them.
Eva: Then why don't you just throw the other ones out?
Albert: I don't know. Because they're my friends?
----
Eva: Oh, the Container Store?
Albert: Yes, yes, the Container Store. The store that sells crap so you can put your crap in so you can go out and buy some more crap.
Eva: I love that store. I love crap.
