The New York Dolls formed in New York in 1971, exploding a proto-punk sound onto the scene with a visual style that would influenced the look of many new wave and 1980s-era glam metal groups, and the New York scene that later spawned the Ramones, Blondie, Television and Talking Heads. In the early 70's, rock photographer Bob Gruen and his wife Nadya purchased a portable video recorder, and in a period of three years, shot over 40 hours of New York Dolls footage. This documentary captures the band during early performances in New York at Kenny's Castaways and Max's Kansas City, then follows the Dolls on their west coast tour, including footage from the Whisky A Go Go, the Real Don Steele Show, and Rodney Bingenheimer's E Club. Watch revealing interviews, backstage banter, and late night debauchery for a definitive document of the New York Dolls that won't disappoint.
