I hated the movie. I saw the trailer of this film months after watching the actual movie, and the trailer is about 100 times better than the movie. Very deceiving. I have seen maybe 70-100 kung fu films, and this is among the 3 worst, in my opinion.

The summary is also wrong. It should be something more like: " A man wants to take revenge on a powerful military leader with many soldiers under his command, and is willing to do anything to convince some Shaolin masters to teach him their special martial arts." There's nothing in the movie about a king, or the guy alone defending the temple.

At the beginning, 4 monks had trouble keeping the guy under control. If 4 monks with at least a few years of training can't use their superior skills to contain him, then is their martial arts worth learning? After being allowed to stay at the temple, he spent most of the time doing hard manual labor chores.

Almost no one taught him martial arts, yet somehow mainly by practicing by himself at night, he was able to improve tremendously, enough to challenge his nemesis?

The plot/writing is just awful. The only OK part of the film was finding out why the guy wants revenge.
