A found-footage film that unfurls with the tension of a great thriller. On May 13, 1985, a longtime feud between the city of Philadelphia and controversial Black Power group MOVE came to a deadly climax. By order of local authorities, police dropped military-grade explosive onto a MOVE-occupied rowhouse. TV cameras captured the conflagration that quickly escalated-and resulted in the tragic deaths of eleven people (including five children) and the destruction of 61 homes.

This DVD is not only a great documentary but also a thriller! The story is real though nobody knows the whole truth, as everybody in the houses were killed except one child. Did the child tell the truth or the police? Should a military-type bomb be dropped onto a civilian house from the helicopter by the police? What caused the big fire? Was the U.S. court fair? Was the public hearing useful and fair? It is great thriller documentary! (note: don't miss the extra scenes in the DVD.)

LET THE FIRE BURN (2013) is a documentary about the premeditated destruction of a MOVE house by the Philadelphia Police Department. The police dropped from a hovering helicopter an improvised satchel of explosives onto the roof of the MOVE house on Osage Avenue after an armed standoff. The city authorities, both police and fire, then let the fire burn, burning up most of the block and killing 11 people in the MOVE house. Appropriate viewing on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. LET THE FIRE BURN is immaculately produced from archival footage of investigatory commission hearings the city conducted into the police attack on the MOVE house on Osage, as well as footage from local television reporters on the scene. It is worth checking out.

This film has a distinctive style - it's entirely composed of archival footage - and a shocking story. Excellent documentary.
