While this film is cute or charming, and certainly riffs well on some teen angst LGBT themes, it feels underdeveloped: They cut way too much from the book so it would fit the (rather limited) 83 minute run time. Scott Bakula is woefully underutilized as Kevin's dad, but the DVD includes a nice making of interview with the novel's author.

Really forgettable high school fluff that isn't bad viewing if you're in the mood for some TV-like gay themed entertainment.

It's like a good episode of Degrassi... mediocre at best. It's work a look, but I don't think I'd even remember this movie in a month.

Have to say I liked the book better because it seemed to have a better grasp of what it is like for a closeted gay teen (or just a teen outcast in general) and the serious consequences that can happen when a kid is either outed, or out's himself. That being said, despite it's Glee-like take on high school, it's a good movie and presents a fairly positive spin on the gay teen movie.

Read the book. The movie cut way too much out of the story to where you barely had any idea what the relationships between the characters might be. Save yourself the time and read the book instead.

Realistic portrayal of the trials, tribulations and joys of being gay as a teenager. To come out or not? Each needs to decide while paying the price (good and bad).

I particularly liked the last part of the film which conveyed both the excitement and fear of Russell as his team decided to become the club they really were. Great portrayal of support and humorous video of 2 Dads which all the class seemed to enjoy at the end (pro gay or not).
