If I had never seen a film before, perhaps this Wes Anderson movie might be more puzzling.
I find Anderson’s voice as a filmmaker refreshing. From the sublime to the ridiculous, and a shootout thrown in, who else has this range?

Grand Budapest is my favourite of Wes Anderson’s work but man, it’s hard to pick. Willem Dafoe is great as always but Fiennes as Mssr. Gustav is perfect.
If you like Coen Brothers check this out, or any of Anderson’s other films.

I checked it out and when I got it home girlfriend said she saw it and it was an okay movie but not one she would watch again. From I got the feeling it is a chick type flick so I took it back to the library.

A masterpiece of cinematography. Very heavy camp and at first I thought the story was unappealing; but I stuck with it and the story got better and better. I thought the whole movie was going to take place in the Budapest Hotel but was soon pleased when they left and enjoyed it more and more as the adventures unfolded. Action adventure as well as a sustaining "Who-Done-It" mystery. It becomes less camping in many of the action parts so I was often able to suspend my disbelief.
Lots of well known American actors.
The melancholy ending is a bit of a let down; so watch out for that.
Perfect movie for bad weather and popcorn- enjoy.

I felt like I hadn't focused 100% on details because I found it hard to understand the point of the movie, discern who different characters were supposed to be,what they were talking about or what so many of them had to do with the plot...or what the plot was. I laughed out loud two or three times but don't remember about what.

A fun and tragic story. I have seen the film a couple of times now and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. I am huge fan of Wes Anderson's work, I find his films to be charming and feel good. I found the adventurous spirit of "The Grand Budapest" hotel added some extra verve to Wes Anderson's usually dry tone and tact. The two main characters M. Gustave and Zero Mustafa find themselves caught up in legal scandal involving a wealthy widow. The film sees them sprung from their generally quiet life as a concierge and lobby boy, respectively. The film is set in a sort of inter-war (1919-1939) approximation of Central and Eastern Europe and Wes Anderson does a great job of capturing the images and atmosphere of paranoia and jingoism inherent in that time period. The set pieces are also excellent and well designed I felt really taken in by the images of the films and it added to my involvement of the film.

Wes Anderson NEVER fails to put out. This film is as beautiful as his previous ones. Every time I watch it, it's like watching it for the first time, because I find so many new things to look at and enjoy. The acting is superb, the script wonderful and hilarious, the scenery beautiful and flawless. This movie is a great addition to anyone's collection, and definitely a wonderful movie to watch alone, as a family, on a date - you pick it. It's perfect.

Grandiose and intimate, Wes Anderson’s characters keep their cool as their lives evolve from environments dripping in opulence to gray-scale communist cell blocks and back. Funny, beautiful, stylish and sentimental, I can watch this film over and over and I always notice new details. An all-time fave. ❤️ Mr Gustave 🗝

Moustafa on Gus:
--There are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity... He was one of them. What more is there to say?
--To be frank, I think his world had vanished long before he ever entered it - but, I will say: he certainly sustained the illusion with a marvelous grace!

Gus: I must say, I find that girl utterly delightful. Flat as a board, enormous birthmark the shape of Mexico over half her face, sweating for hours on end in that sweltering kitchen (in the bakery), while Mendl, ...
