The film is set in the future (AD 2031) where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an ice age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. Its inhabitants are divided by class; the lower-class passengers in one of the last cars stage an uprising, moving car by car up to the front of the train, where the oppressive rich and powerful ride.

Extremely dystopian SF, well-thought out with the exception of how the global train tracks remained clear until the end? Suspension of disbelief department.
Enjoyed the performance of the young actress, Ko Ah-sung, whom I especially enjoyed when she appeared in the high school Korean-TV series classic, Master of Study.
The Korean drama actor, Song Kang Ho, has appeared in a variety of past TV dramas and movies, and he was especially good in Hindsight, as a former gangster going straight who gets mixed up with a female assassin.
Really a predictable future given the synthesis of zany Bill Gates climate alteration suggestions*** and the Chinese Communist Party's emperor, Xi Jinping and his One Belt One Road program - - truly heading in such a future!
***Gates was the dude who let loose those genetically engineered "dengue-fighting" mosquitoes, and at each location they were set loose, a Zika virus explosion occurred, destroying future and present lives as a result. Too bad the World Health Organization wouldn't take a serious look at that - - but wait, the number one donor to WHO is the Gates Foundation. Ho, hum . . .

The movie reminded me of others like WaterWorld, Postman, The Day after Tomorrow. I did find the movie to be entertaining but during parts of the movie I believe it could have been executed better by the director. If you are the type of person who liked Waterworld, Postman, or The Day after Tomorrow then you will enjoy watching this movie.

Snowpiercer is a dystopian sci-fi film, starring Chris Evans in the lead role. The film is about cooling temperatures on Earth, turning the planet into a frozen wasteland, while killing nearly all life. The only human survivors are aboard the Snowpiercer: a train continuously travelling the world. In spite of its far-fletched story, South Korean director, Bong Joon-ho, takes the audience on a trip with great performances, a fast-paced plot, and a thought-provoking theme. He explores the idea of human behavioral flaws, along with the ideas of hierarchy and social structure, as all passengers on the train are divided into classes to maintain order. What drives the plot forward is the underlying theme of revolution against suppressors, as those on the lowest level of the social structure decide to challenge the status-quo by attempting to take charge of the train. The film only derails on occasional moments, which is why I give it 4.5 stars.

Snowpiercer is a magnificently weird look at a world where a climate change experiment has rendered the earth a snow-covered, uninhabitable wasteland and what's left of humanity travels on a train that traverses the snowy hellscape and never stops. The train has a strictly segregated caste system and, you guessed it, the plot involves a quasi-revolutionary (played by Captain America himself, Chris Evans) making his way from the squalor of the caboose to the opulent engine. There are some truly insane and deeply strange sequences but overall this is one of the most memorable films I have seen in the last 5 years.

Even though it's already been a few years since I first saw it, it took me longer than it should have to watch this movie. The idea of humanity surviving a weather apocalypse on a giant, infinitely moving train seemed too ridiculous for a serious action-drama. Man was I disappointed in myself for waiting after I saw it. If you are a fan of hyper-violence mixed with metaphors of class conflict and human morality under pressure, you will love Snowpiercer. Think Battle Royale meets 1984 in the Orient Express on Hoth. For a Science Fiction movie, it's ok. For a social allegory to the flaws of modern society and human nature, it's an incredible movie. If you want more after seeing the movie, check out the graphic novels that it's based on. The first two volumes are iffy, but the third manages to convey the energy and commentary of the movie.

Liked the idea of the movie. The plot sounded very interesting, but the actual execution was not good--at least the part that I viewed, as I did not want to finish it. Maybe it gets amazing after the first 45 minutes?!!!

Violence can lead to moral questions, which it does repeatedly in Snowpiercer. Violence in response to being suppressed and abused for someone else’s lavish living is appropriate in this film. I think it is almost perfect because there’s nothing I would change. I thought Chris Evans (Curtis) was remarkable. As was Jamie Bell, as was Octavia Spencer. Dark story with a few dark laughs (“YOU are a shoe”) and plot twists.

I love dystopian sci fi and have rarely come across a more badly thought out dystopia ever. Distractingly stupid.

What did the critics see in this film? The premise, plot and world they created was INCREDIBLY interesting - and this is one of those movies that could have been GREAT, but the execution simply failed. There were just too many contradictions never resolved and too much incredibly poor film-making. Probably my biggest complaint is the quality of the film-making felt like a college school film project. There were times during some of the action sequences that you could literally tell they were just shaking the camera as two people were fighting trying to make the action feel bigger. Now, that is one of the tried and true methods of adding to a great action sequence, but it was done so poorly as an audience, you are pulled out of the film wondering why they are shaking the camera so much! Contradictions like (SPOILER ALERT) they put a guys arm out the window for a very researched specific amount of time to freeze & kill the arm (to amputate), but then (SUPER SPOILER ALERT, I'M NOT KIDDING) it turns out you could go outside after all and survive. So, hours earlier 7 seconds outside froze your limbs off, and just hours later you can walk around outside in a parka with your hood off. Typical short-comings of poorly done action films like a simple knock on the head will kill one guy, but not even knock out another, etc. Unresolved issues like that throughout the film. This felt like a really low-grade effort into a genre the director simply was not ready to take on. Looking through Bong's IMDb page, it appears that might be the case, an arthouse drama director trying to take on a sci-fi action film.

From IMDb: Order is the barrier that holds back the flood of death. We must all of us on this train of life remain in our allotted station. ... Would you wear a shoe on your head? Of course you wouldn't wear a shoe on your head. A shoe doesn't belong on your head. A shoe belongs on your foot. A hat belongs on your head. I am a hat. You are a shoe. I belong on the head. You belong on the foot. Yes? So it is. In the beginning, order was proscribed by your ticket: First Class, Economy, and freeloaders like you. Eternal order is prescribed by the sacred engine: all things flow from the sacred engine, all things in their place, all passengers in their section, all water flowing. all heat rising, pays homage to the sacred engine, in its own particular preordained position. So it is. Now, as in the beginning, I belong to the front. You belong to the tail. When the foot seeks the place of the head, the sacred line is crossed. Know your place. Keep your place. Be a shoe.
