In the Ground... On January 24, 1971-over 25 years after World War II - in an adventure worthy of Indiana Jones, avid coin collector and treasure burner Roger Roxas unearthed the legendary 'Yamashita Treasure'... estimated value reported to be in the billons Under the Sea... One of the worst disasters in American maritime history occurred in 1857 with the sinking of S.S. Central America. The 300,000 pounds of gold eventually recovered from the shipwreck was worth well in excess of $200 million, including an 80-pound gold ingot that was the most valuable piece of currency in the world at that time. She carried passengers, mail, and cargo between Asp in, Colombia, and New York City with a stopover in Havana. On the second day out of Havana the weather changed... the passengers and crew headed directly into the teeth of major hurricane. In all, about 150 passengers were rescued and over 400 perished. Nothing came of the salvage attempts in the late 1850s, and the issue of recovery-and the gold - would lie dormant for over a hundred and twenty years. And Everywhere in Between... In August of 1992, Lindner Aviation employee, Heath Benjamin, while conducting routine inspection of a small, single-engine airplane, discovered two packets approximately four inches high wrapped in Aluminum foil inside the left wing. He removed the foil from the packets finding $18,000 of currency... Book jacket.
