This book was a great read with dynamic characters. I loved the idea of people living on the moon and the sneaky government. 5 stars and looking foward to book 2!
Great for all ages. Has some mild violence.

"Despite her dreams of becoming a bioengineer, Phaet enlists in the military at the age of 15. Life on the Moon's human colony is brutally divided among the have and have-nots, and after her mother is detained by the controlling Lunar government, Phaet has no choice but to join the highly competitive Militia if she wants to keep her siblings out of the slums. Similar to The Hunger Games and Divergent trilogies, this intriguing dystopian series opener (by 19-year-old author Karen Bao) offers pulse-pounding action, a touch of romantic drama, and a heroine who's willing to do whatever it takes to save her loved ones." Dove Arising is a dystopian novel that takes place on the moon centered around the character Phaet who has to make some choices in order to care for her family after her mother's arrest. For the first 1/3 of the book I was reminded a lot of the Hunger Games and Divergent. For example, Phaet is an underdog who works hard in her military training (Tris). She also has a male best friend who is interested in more (like Gale). It wasn't so much that I lost interest though. The story line developed and got more original as it went on. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the way it ended. It wasn't a book that made me think I wasted my time when I got to the end or that I stopped mid-book. I look forward to the sequel.
