Movie Mondays: Top 10 DVD releases of 2014

5. A Field in England. I won’t claim to understand what much of the movie was about, except that it was about 17th century Englishmen who trip on mushrooms in a field, but it was mesmerizing and completely original. (more)

Movie Mondays: Modern Day Black-and-White

The overwhelming majority of films since the 1970s have been filmed in color. The few black-and-white films since then – The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon and Young Frankenstein in the ’70s, The Elephant Man, Raging Bull and Zelig in the ’80s, Schindler’s List, Ed Wood and Clerks in the ’90s, and Good Night, and Good Luck, Sin City and Persepolis in the ’00s – represent some of the most darin (more)

I don't know how to rate this, it was such a weird, disjointed, trippy little thing. I certainly felt like I'd wasted time I'd never get back. On the other hand, I didn't turn it off....

But I'd definitely never watch it again (and I did like Eraserhead - strange but oddly compelling - and loved Under The Skin - so much social commentary, intended or not)

Beautifully shot B&W film that takes place in the English countryside during Britain's civil war. Many strange things happen to a small group of deserters after they cross a large "fairy ring" (and proceed to eat it's mushrooms). The men are then persuaded to hunt for a treasure buried in the titular filed. What ensues may or may not be pure hallucination...

Rated 1/10. If you like shows like Picnic At Hanging Rock or Mulholland Drive, you'll love this movie.

Returning after forwarding multiple times since it wasn't what I expected or had any interest in.

Beautiful, B&W, creepy, weird, arty horror. This is not a popcorn movie, but an awesome movie for people who like to think about movies. If you like films like Under The Skin and Eraserhead, then A field In England might be your cup of tea.

A truly amazing film featuring extraordinary acting and cinematography. Not for everyone's tastes (see some of the comments here) but if you're interested in intellectually challenging entertainment that's WAY off the beaten track, this might be for you.

Just plain awful this movie was a train wreck. To say this movie was bad. It’s an understatement it was torture to watch. In also in other words, it was a dumb movie.

Old_Toto strained to see value here but failed. At least a lot of people an organizations received a pay and tax checks. Thanks to a peer for inspiring old_toto to manipulate a half star. He didn't realize that it could be done until attempting it a couple of times.

There is no way to describe how bad this movie is. If someone has anything good to say about this movie, they're just blowing smoke to make themselves feel hipper than anybody else on the planet. It's pure trash.
