This is is awful !
I got this NYPL disc home and put this movie in the DVD player...and the screen says: "NOT FORMATTED FOR THIS REGION" !!??
( Even though it states "Region #1" (ie. North America), on the DVD jacket !!?)
I have watched a thousand other New York Public Library DVDs on my Panasonic Region 1 DVD Player,.. but this one makes it over 32 TIMES that a film has come up as "NOT FORMATTED..." etc. !
I waited a long time to get this highly recommended film.
I really wanted to see this movie.
And I know that ALL the NYPL copies of this title will have this same problem !!
WHY is the New York Public Library still buying DVD's that are "NOT FORMATTED.." to be viewed in this region ! ??
Has this ever happened to anyone else out there ?

Recommended with reservation -- this film can be an entertaining way to learn the origin and importance of the Seabees. Good script and appealing cast. Good battle scenes. But the modern viewer will be shocked by the highly racist portrayal of Japanese soldiers, typical of a 1940s Hollywood production. Children may require an explanation.

Amazing. This movie is spectacular, with a breathtaking final battle scene. Truly fabulous.(although sad ending. I almost cried.) :(
