Tom Shannon's visually perplexing sculptures and installations allude to unseen forces better known to physics - and to Star Trek fans - than to conventional art, says Art in America magazine. In this TEDTalk, journalist John Hockenberry visits the artist/inventor at his Manhattan studio for an intimate look at his science-inspired art. Footage of Shannon painting via a remote-control pendulum is of especial interest and, taken in combination with comments on centripetal acceleration, wave dynamics, and even predictive biology, makes this video a useful tool for the teaching of science.
